Probably the most significant announcement in the history of British supermoto has just been released. Following extensive discussions between the AMCA, ACU, BSMC and the Sportcity partners a stunning new British Championship venue has been added to the 2008 race calendar. Sportcity is the home of Manchester City Football Club as well as the Manchester Velodrome, Manchester Regional Arena and National Squash Centre. It will soon add supermoto to its sporting programme. In a ground-breaking deal the spectacular British Supermoto Championships will be run in the grounds of Sportcity, Manchester on Saturday 27 September. The temporary European style race circuit features a high-speed tarmac straight on which the bikes will hit over a 100mph, fast swooping curves as well as the usual spectacular tight supermoto turns to show the bikes ‘backing it in’ sideways. All of this coupled with a purpose built ‘stadium’ style off-road section that promises some truly awesome racing. A British Supermoto Grand Prix round of the World Supermoto Championships has also been pencilled in at Sportcity for 2009.
Meanwhile the BSMC race day kicks off at 09.00 am and will run all day until the double points scoring final climaxing at 20.00. This innovative and breath-taking all-action event will showcase the very best of British supermoto to the public right in the heart of Manchester which is sure to draw in a large crowd of fascinated spectators.
Gary Crate, Sportcity Estate Manager "is delighted to welcome the very first motorsport event to Sportcity and we look forward to an exciting days racing on 27 September."

The race format will give Clubman, S4 Junior 84-150cc bikes as well as the usual BSMC S1 (450), S2 (open-class) Aprilia SXV Challenge Cup and the S3 (250) classes four races as well as practice and qualifying sessions. So whether you’re a Clubman, a Junior supermoto racer, a potential World Champion or just keen on anything to do with bikes, Sportcity, Manchester is the place to be on Saturday 27 September.
